Christmas Sugar Cookie Cutouts

Christmas is around the corner and everyone needs a GREAT sugar cookie recipe! These are my absolute go to and favorite. They make up easy, and fast. You can double or triple this recipe easily for whatever you need. Get your children into the kitchen with you, for this fun project; plus I have seen and understand kids love eating things they help make even if it has whole wheat flour, or something they may not truly like (but then again who does not like cookies!). Be sure to share your pictures with us on Facebook, we love seeing kids in the kitchen! My number one goal is to move more children into the kitchen and helping out! I love when my kids help and they truly never smile so much then when they are helping create something yummy! Families that cook together, stay together. We get in that kitchen and make a 'bloody' mess and I do not really care because seeing them smile, laugh, and enjoy themselves means more to me than a mess (plus no electronics!!!).
You Will Need:
3 Cups All-Purpose Flour
1/2 tsp Baking Powder (Bob's Red Mill)
1/4 tsp Salt
3/4 Cup Butter, room temp
1 Cup Sugar
2 Eggs
2 tsp Vanilla
Cream butter & sugar together
Add eggs, and vanilla continue to mix
Should be thick, pale and incorporated
Fold in flour, baking powder, and salt, I used a fork to fold this in because it worked much better than a spatula; then I went to my hands. You may have to add a bit more flour if it is too sticky
Divide the dough if you want to add food coloring- then add natural vegetable food coloring (whole foods market sells it or make your own)
Wrap and place in fridge for 30 minutes
Roll dough on floured surface, leaving it thick (better cookies that way!) and cut whatever out you wish; I lost all my cookie cutters when we moved but I did find a snowflake at Kroger for $.63
They are beautiful color here, I used roughly 6 drops of the natural vegetable food colors
Place them on a cookie sheet, lined with unbleached parchment paper, and bake at 350 degrees for 8-12 minutes, or until golden brown
Cool for 15 minutes on a wire rack- I just slid off the parchment paper onto the wire rack
Aren't they beautiful?! The pink color of that snowflake is flawless!
